Sprained... Maybe!?!

Well... Not too much new to report from here other than I'm no longer convinced that my ankle was sprained during the BC 2010. I'm now thinking that the injury I have is caused by a pair of winter shoes I've been wearing. I ran in them the last couple of days and wound up with very similar symptoms as those I developed during the BC. I switched shoes this morning while doing some speed work and have no issues this evening. I'm going to stick with these shoes for a bit and see if I can't gain final resolution.

Speaking of shoes or the lack of wearing any while running... I just finished up Christopher McDougall's great book, "Born to Run" (third time I've read it). What an amazing book! (No benefits gained by saying so.) If you're in any way interested in running this is an amazing book that will make you laugh, cause you to stop and ponder the way things are, and simply enjoy. What a great read!

Nonetheless... Don't plan to knock out a lot of kilometers this week. It's another strength week.

BC Sprain

All of the books I've read on running tell you that it's going to happen... And yes, I thought I could avoid it, but now it's here and I'm bumming...

As you may have seen from the pictures from the Brocken-Challenge there was a lot of snow (it's a winter ultra!). While running the BC 2010 I twisted my ankles in the snow repeatedly. About half way through my right ankle really started bothering me. As things turned out - I sprained it. And, I kept running...

Sunday morning there was a little swelling and some discoloration. By Monday morning my right ankle had swollen to about the size of a grapefruit.

The Doc told me that "Yep, you sprained your ankle." And you now can stay off of it for up to three weeks. That means no running, hiking or skiing...

This is going to drive me crazy...

My ankle is already feeling better!
